6 Winterizing Tips for Your Classic Car

As temperatures drop, you might be ready to put your Classic Car into the safe confines of the garage.  But before you park it, be sure to give it one last round of TLC.  For a great start in spring, here are 6 Tips to help keep your Antique Car through the winter.

1. Fill’er Up.

Top off your gas tank and be sure to add a fuel preservative.  Then, before parking your car, take one last spin to allow the preservative to circulate through the engine.  A full gas tank will keep out moisture.

2. Change the Oil

Fresh oil will help avoid sludge and grime in the spring. Keep in mind that as the car sits, oil will settle into the pan, leaving the engine without lubrication.  Next spring, disconnect the coil wire and crank the engine over several times. Reconnect the coil wire, and you should be good to go.

3. Wash and Polish

A final wash and wax will help protect the paint in cold temperatures.  Don’t forget chrome parts: Use wax or paint sealant to protect and keep them shiny.

4. Pump up the Tires

Over-inflating the tires will help avoid flat-spotting during the several months that the car is parked.  Alternatively, jack up the car to take pressure off the tires.

5. Keep Rodents Away

To prevent rodents from making their cozy home in your engine compartment, consider putting rodent repellent under the hood.  But don’t forget to remove it before you start your car back up next spring.

6. Cover it Up.

A breathable car cover will help prevent corrosion and rust.
